It is no “new” news that co-founder Cole Hamels signed on for a hopeful year with the Chicago Cubs, so what does this mean for The Hamels Foundation? For us, it means expanding our Project U.S. communities and furthering the impact of quality education…and we couldn’t be more excited.
Our goal is to provide high-quality educational opportunities and stimulating learning environments for students in the United States, and we are honored to have the opportunity to support Chicago-area schools and neighborhoods, alongside Cole.
It has been a blast getting involved! This September, we celebrated a community-based approach to education by presenting $10,000 to the Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) and Working in the Schools (WITS). As both organizations parallel our thoughts on educational tools for children, it was a no brainer to join forces!
Why We Love AUSL & WITS
AUSL delivers great education and transforms tragically underperforming schools. They believe every child, regardless of zip code, deserves the same quality of education. Not simply because it is fair, but because it is right. It’s equity in education; AUSL helps to provide what is lacking in struggling schools in challenged neighborhoods.
WITS sets students on a trajectory for success by building critical literacy skills and developing positive self-identity through teacher-led literacy professional development and volunteer powered mentorship programs, creating opportunities so that every student in Chicago will be literate.”
We are excited about the opportunities AUSL and WITS are providing to children and about expanding the possibilities of Project U.S. from California to Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth to Chicago, and beyond!
A huge thank you to the Chicago Cubs for bringing Cole and The Hamels Foundation to another area we can serve.
