The Hamels Foundation Tournament for Education Set to Begin July 17th
Tournament originally scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend will take place as we return to play safely
UPDATED Monday, June 29th — Philadelphia Baseball Training and The Hamels Foundation announced their partnership for the youth tournament season for a second consecutive year back in February. The tournament was originally scheduled for Memorial Day weekend and was unfortunately postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as we safely return to the field entering the green phase, we’re excited to announce the Tournament for Education is back on and scheduled for July 17th through July 19th at Newtown Edgmont Little League.
Safety is our #1 priority as we return to the diamond this summer. The Philadelphia Baseball Tournaments staff has implemented new ground rules to best assure the safety and health of our players, coaches, and parents. We ask everyone in attendance to please follow our new COVID-19 Ground Rules. Other COVID-19 safety precautions include moving all raffles and auctions items digitally instead of in-person bidding. Please visit (Hyperlink) to begin bidding on some awesome items provided by The Hamels Foundation. All proceeds go towards finishing the construction of the Namunda Primary School and Project Malawi. Originally, each age bracket champion was set to present a $500 check to The Hamels Foundation towards Project Malawi. To maintain health and safety guidelines, only one (1) player from each winning team will stand next to the check for photos at a designated location on the field.
The Hamels Foundation, co-founded by former Phillies star pitcher Cole Hamels and his wife Heidi, supports quality, community-based education across the globe. They assist U.S. schools and other education-based nonprofits to provide stimulating learning environments, high-quality educational programs, and necessary provisions to promote learning. One of their major projects is focused on building a fully functioning school campus for children in grades 1 – 8 in the Namunda Village, located in the Mulanje District of Malawi, Africa. By teaming up with the Hamels Foundation, we’re building dreams through sports and education. Sports have proven to have a positive impact on educational outcomes including academic performance, greater inclusivity, and participation in the classroom, as well as improvements to student health and preparedness for the future.
