This is just in: our 2nd Annual Top of the Hill event was a success, and we have YOU to thank! On September 20th, 2018, several hundred people came together to celebrate education for children around the world! Despite a rainy forecast, we were blessed to gather on this bright, warm evening, where over $80,000 was raised in support of Philadelphia-area education, as well as our Namunda Primary School in Malawi, Africa.

Laughs, smiles, and fun were had throughout the course of Top of the Hill, as former Phillies players Kyle Kendrick, Ryan Howard, and co-founder Cole Hamels took the spotlight. Guests were delighted by the chance to take photos and chat with the players. Not only were we honored by their special appearances, but also humbled by their support of our mission. The list of special guests did not stop there! Many laughs were had by kids and Phillie’s fans alike thanks to The Phillie Phanatic, and the fun continued with the help of the Phillies Ballgirls, who cheered on game players.

Our silent auction and raffle tables were a huge hit with event attendees bidding to take home autographed baseballs and sports memorabilia, travel packages, grill sets, coffee items, toys, games, gift cards and much more.

One of the best parts of Top of the Hill was giving everyone who attended the chance to truly get involved with our work. Through examples of The Shoe That Grows, MPOWERD Solar Lanterns, and AFRIpads, which we supply to our Namunda Primary School students, attendees were able to examine and directly donate these life-changing resources. In addition, we encouraged guests to leave a legacy with our No Empty Shelves Project. We watched our bookshelf fill up, book by book, as our amazing supporters bought and personalized books with individual donation stickers and special messages for our Namunda Primary School students. Over 40 pairs of Shoes That Grow and AFRIpads plus 200 books and bookbags were donated, and we can’t thank YOU enough!

The crowd got on their feet as musicians Sara Spicer and Lee Gantt took the stage after co-founders, Cole and Heidi Hamels, graciously presented WB Saul High School with $48,000 to further improve their greenhouse. We first got involved with WB Saul about two years ago due to their influential Greenhouse Project and overall focus on agriculture. Our previous donation(s) helped to renovate the main greenhouse, while this donation supports two new heating units, as well as maintenance and repairs for upkeep.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and everyone who made this event possible! We had so many wonderful volunteers, from teens to adults, who ensured that all the attendees enjoyed the event. We couldn’t have done it without our amazing sponsors and board members, who helped with manning the silent auction tables to raffles to serving food.

Our 2nd Top of the Hill was a success! Thanks to YOU, over $80,000 was raised in support of quality education in the U.S. and Malawi, Africa. If you didn’t make it out to Top of the Hill, never fear! We are looking forward to next year’s events, and you can always help change a child’s life right here. Thank you for believing #EducationIsTheAnswer.
