Malawi
The Hamels Foundation is dedicated to bringing an end to the extreme poverty and hardship endured by Malawi's two million orphans and vulnerable child victims of the AIDS/HIV virus. In 2009, The Hamels Foundation will begin its efforts of creating an all-girls boarding school that will provide the means for impoverished girls to realize the full range of their potential; to act as examples of girls empowerment and gender equity; to foster Malawian cultural pride and responsibility; and to raise the nation of Malawi and its people to abundance and lasting health.

Thailand
The Hamels Foundation was able to provide and equip a boys soccer team consisting of children who were displaced by Thailands 2004 tsunami. The sport has been vital in establishing a bridge for children and youth in social skills as well as a sense of belonging and camaraderie. Not only were uniforms and equipment provided, but instruction as well. For these victims, building a youth soccer program gave them something to look forward to as well as a healthy distraction from the areas devastation. The Hamels Foundation continues to support this project.

Turkmenistan
The children in Turkmenistan are learning to play American sports and among the favorites is baseball. The Hamels Foundation is working with representatives of the Peace Corps to provide these children with equipment; baseballs, bats, gloves, helmets and hats. The sport is rising in popularity so much so that annually there is a tournament from different valeyats (similar to states) in which the teams consist of both boys and girls. Many of the girls in this country only wear long skirts to their ankles, and to watch them play baseball and run among the boys is really thrilling. It is such a wonderful lesson for all people to know in this developing country that the girls are capable of doing everything the boys do, and need not be confined to the home. Organization of mini-tournaments is currently under way which allows us to reach out to more children to practice the rules of the game and good sportsmanship. Most have never seen a bat or helmet before and it is truly rewarding to see the excitement in these children's eyes as they explain to all the people in their communities about the sport of baseball and how to play it. Some of the kids throw amazingly well, but they definitely love batting the most. Equipment is sparse and much in need of repair. Our hope is to expand this program so that a wonderful experience is had by all.
