How the Hamels Foundation Helped

map curve-right
In response to the Peace Corps request, The Hamels Foundation was able to provide baseball equipment for two complete teams. This included uniforms, bats, balls, helmets, gloves, and hats. The girls in this country wear their long skirts down to their ankles and to watch them “play baseball and run among the boys is really thrilling”. They were able to organize ‘mini-tournaments’ which allowed them to reach out to more children to practice the rules of the game and good sportsmanship. Most had never seen a bat or helmet before and it is truly rewarding to see the excitement in these children’s eyes as they explain to all the people in the communities about the sport of baseball and how to play it. Equipment remains sparse and our hope is to expand this program so that all have a wonderful experience.
