Bayard Taylor School Project (Philadelphia, PA): Construction Phase
The Hamels Foundation has given Bayard Taylor Elementary School in North Philadelphia a $300,000 grant for an interactive playground and learning center. On August 8th, Greater Media of Philadelphia will stand along side Cole and Heidi Hamels and 120 other volunteers to put the finishing touches on this dream learning enviroment. The Upper Merion Spirit Committee at GlaxoSmithKline, invited The Hamels Foundation to to participate in their 4th Annual picnic for their 1500+ employees at the Upper Merion site in King of Prussia, PA on June 13th from 11:30 am-2:30 pm. The site picnics are a great way for non-profit organizations to raise awareness and recruit volunteers. The Hamels Foundation along with several other non-profit organizations were in attendance to inform GSK workers of their organizations and to enjoy the fun filled day! On June 1st, 2012, The Hamels Foundation presented a $300,000 check to Principal Drossner at Bayard Taylor Elementary. With this grant, The Hamels Foundation will provide an educational play yard that is both sustainable and environmentally green. For over 100 years, the students of Bayard Taylor have played and exercised in an area that looks similar to an empty parking lot. Our goal is to renovate this space to teach lessons in technology, science, physical education, and teamwork by including a chess/checker station, an iPad/Tech learning center, a greenhouse, a playground, and more. Everyone was able to gather at McFadden's in Citizen's Bank Park to enjoy in sampling over 50 Different Beers from 25+ Craft Breweries and a Live Band & DJ Music, all while checking out all of the items at the Silent Auction!
