On Saturday March 8th, The Hamels Foundation hosted a screening of the inspirational film ‘Girl Rising’ in honor of International Women’s Day. This film follows young girls from around the world, documenting their journey as they pursue an education.  Never having seen the movie before this event, I was not sure what to expect, but this film was incredibly eye opening to the various hardships girls go through on a daily basis to become educated. On Wednesday, November 13. 2013, during the Philadelphia 76ers vs. Houston Rockets game. Cole and Heidi Hamels were recipients of the Sixers Heroes Among Us award. The Hamels Foundation was a beneficiary of the 50/50 raffle, totaling a $3,633.00 donation to the foundation, which supports kids and education. A typical school in Malawi Africa

We visited a typical school in Malawi on the first day of school back in September 2013. Most schools are overcrowded and students gather under a patio or under a tree to learn. It is very common to see one teacher teaching over 100 students. When children do not know their age, teachers have to check for their molars and do other tests to see if they are underage.
